PNPECU has developed the M1.3 solution to satisfy customer requests to allow the M1.3 engine to be fully controlled.

Transmission compatibility
This is a complicated subject as at the time of writing there are solutions for external control of DCT, 6HP and 8HP transmissions out of BMWs, at the same time MaxxECU provides it´s standardized can bus output which multiple transmission controllers are able to make use of for just about any transmission out there.
The PNPECU Adapter is ready to be used with the original automatics that came in motronic 1.3 vehicles.

what this means is that the BMW TCU believes it´s listening and talking to an OEM BMW DME.
The MaxxECU is not directly controlling the transmission but sending and receiving signals that emulate the BMW DME.
MaxxECU is working on adding other BMW newer transmissions to the emulation compatibility list.

M1.3 VANOS OEM Sensors Usage
• AFM is not used - the signal is available in the adapter housing (X6003-27) if wanted.
• Lambda sensor are not used
• AFM Air temp sensor is not used unless the AFM is left in place - new fast sensor is supplied through stock wiring
• HT Lead cyl6 signal - can be used as camsync if distributor is kept, otherwise a cam sensor can be plugged into the 3pin connector (VR sensor only) Hall effect would need wiring through the auxiliary sensor.
• Coolant temperature - used as OEM
• TPS sensor - must be replaced with a M50 TPS, no wiring alterations required
• Vehicle Speed - used for vehicle speed
• AC signals from vehicle - used as OEM
• AC Compressor Enable - available in the adapter but not wired
• AC Compressor Activate - available in the adapter but not wired

CAN BUS Compatibility
The vehicles the M1.3 originally came in did not communicate with the rest of the vehicle via CAN BUS. However, thanks to the MaxxECU it is possible to fit the engine into other BMWs that require information via CAN BUS

Not everyone is going to need or want the same thing with their ECU conversion.

Additional features of the adapter
• Ignition outputs - The adapter has pre-wired 6 ignition outputs that can be used for low side outputs or individual ignition coils such as M50 coils or use three ignition outputs to use a wasted spark coil. The ignition outputs can be made logic level easily to support smart coils in any configuration , single, wasted or individual.
